His Eminence archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene celebrating Christmas in Oregon and Washington states

On Christmas morning His Eminence Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan left the headquarters of the Western Archdiocese in Burbank and traveled to Portland, Oregon, where he celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. His Eminence was assisted by Rev. Fr. George El-Banna. In his Christmas message His Eminence explained the meaning of the new-born Child of Bethlehem, and how the faithful should celebrate His Birthday. His Eminence also encouraged the faithful to attend the Holy Eucharist constantly.

On the next day, Sunday, December 26th, 2010 at 11:00 am His Eminence celebrated the Divine Liturgy again at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, and was assisted by Rev. Fr. George El-Banna, and Rev. Fr. Abdullah Tafas. During the Holy Eucharist he promoted three parishioners to the degree of readers (ܩܪ̈ܘܝܐ): Matar Hakkoum, Christopher Khayata, and Fadi Baher Butti. During the ordination there were the cheers and joy of the families who expressed their happiness on this joyous occasion.

During his homily, His Eminence explained the meanings of the Deacons rank in the church, praised the enthusiasm and diligence of the Rev. Fr. George Al-Banna, and the activity of the Parish Council and all church organizations.

Followed the ordination all attendees were invited to a luncheon prepared by the parishioners.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization comprised of 10 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
