 Thousands Bid Final Adieu to Metropolitan Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese
MANGALORE, INDIA: In an atmosphere filled with emotional feelings of thousands of people assembled St. Antony's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Mangalore, the mortal remains of Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese Metropolitan was laid to rest on March 09, Wednesday at 12.30 P.M. The late Metropolitan was the Senior Metropolitan of EAE & St. Antony's Mission (Honnavar Mission), of The Universal Syrian Orthodox Church.
The funeral service started at 9.00 AM IST. His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I led the service. Metropolitans Their Graces, Mor Themotheos Thomas (Kottayam), Mor Gregorios Joseph (Kochi), Mor Dionysius Geevarghese (Reesh Dayaroyo of Manjanikkara Dayaro & Simhasana Churches), Mor Dioscorus Kuriakose (Reesh Dayaroyo of Malelcuriz Dayaro & Simhasana Churches), Mor Aphrem Mathews (Perumbavoor & High Range), Mor Osthatheos Pathrose (Bangalore & Singapore), Mor Chrisostomos Markose (EAE), Mor Ivanios Kuriakose (Knanaya Archdiocese), Mor Irenios Paulose (Kozhikode, Australia & New Zealand), Dr. Mor Clemis Kuriakose (Idukki), Mor Osthatheos Ishaq (Mylapore & Delhi) assisted. Hundreds of priests from different parts of India attended.
At the end of the funeral service, His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I labeled the body with Holy Oil (Zayto) and the assistant Metropolitans of EAE & Honnavar Mission, Mor Chrisostomos Markose and Mor Anthonios Yaq`ub covered the face with ‘shushefo’ veil. Condolence messages of His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas and Archbishop of Aleppo His Eminence Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim was read.
Thousands of people thronged the St. Antony's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, on last two days to pay last respects to the departed father. Metropolitans His Excellency Dr. Geevarghese Mar Dionysius (Syro Malankara Church, Diocese of Puthur), Bishop Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy (Syro Malabar Church, Diocese of Belthangady), Archbishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D'souza (Catholic Church, Diocese of Mangalore), Bishop Dr. John S Sadananda (Church of South India, Diocese of Southern Karnataka) offered prayers at Cathedral on these days.
Earlier Ex Ministers of Kerala, Chev. Dr. T U Kuruvila & Janab T H Musthafa Haji, Shri. Saju Paul MLA, AICC Secretary Shri. Vinay Kumar Sorake Ex MP, Shri Ivan D`souza (Vice President, DCC Dakshina Kannada Dt), Shri P P Varghese (President, Block Congress Committee, Kadaba) paid their last tributes to the metropolitan.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch,
providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox
community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization
