1st Anniversary of St. Peter Church, San Gabriel Valley

On Sunday May 15th 2011, St. Peter Church celebrated 1 year Anniversary. His Eminence Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene celebrated the Divine Liturgy, assisted by both Rev. Fathers: Joseph Kallo, and Louis Yacoub, and during the Divine Liturgy very Rev. Abdulahad Shara and the Rev. John Saif attended.

His Eminence presented his sermon in three languages, Syriac, Arabic, and English, congratulating the church congregation for their important achievement, thanking the Parish Council and all those who assisted them in finding the church building. His Eminence also presented Certificates of Appreciation to Yasmin Kavak, Anthony Bekdas, and Kevin Bekdas for their commitment and dedication to the church.

The joy was indescribable, and happiness beyond the word, and faithful from all over came to participate in the joyous occasion. From day one the parishioners of St. Peter Church through their hard work, activities, enthusiasm, and generosity, prayed to have a physical church of their own. Our Lord Jesus Christ blessed the community of St. Peter with the purchase of a church building in the city of San Dimas in April 2011. This happened especially by the care, urge, and encouragement of their Archbishop His eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan who also urged and encouraged all churches of the Western Archdiocese guiding them in the right direction in their spiritual journeys. Their focus is to have to their children and youth and their families in the Lord’s house where they gather together in the presence of the Lord, and lift their prayers of thanks and praise, motivated by their love to the Syriac Orthodox Church.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a luncheon was held in the social hall to celebrate the 1 year Anniversary. The delicious food was catered by faithful member Aram Simon, owner of Zaky Mediterranean Grill. There was also tasty sweets which were prepared by some Ladies Auxiliary members. A special slideshow displaying pictures of memorable events within the past year was shown in the hall also. A special thank you to Jennifer Bekdas for preparing the slideshow, Silva Arik, Mary Arik, Sabrina Akyol, and Kristin Arik and Youth members for the beautiful hall decorations.

And so it was on Sunday, May 15, 2011 a memorable day which in it many faithful from various churches came to participate in the celebration of the first year anniversary of St. Peter church in Glendora and to congratulate them on purchasing a building for new church in the city of San Dimas, a year after its founding, which indicates the deep faith, love, and stability of this parish toward their Church.

الذكرى السنوية الاولى لتأسيس كنيسة مار بطرس الرسول

كانت الفرحة لا توصف، والابتهاج عارمٌ، وجموعٌ جاءت من كل حدبٍ وصوب لتشاركَ هذه الرعية الفتية التي ما توقفت يوماً منذ ولادتها عن العمل بكل جدٍ ونشاطٍ وغيرةٍ وسخاءٍ، كبيرُهم مع صغيرِهم في أن تكون لهم كنيسةً تفتخر بها الأبرشية والسريان سواسيةً. جُلَّ همُهم أن يكونَ لأولادِهم وشبابهم ولعائلاتهم ملجأً يجتمعون فيه ليقدموا للرب صلوات الشكر والحمد يدفعُهم حبُهم لهذه الكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية، كنيسة الشهداء والقديسين والغيارى والمؤمنين كيف لا وعلى رأسها مطرانٌ جليلٌ حثهم وشجعهم كما حثَّ وشجع كل كنائس الأبرشية بالتوجيه الصحيح والمسيرة الروحية التي توصل أبناءها الى بَّر الامان.

وهكذا كان يوم الأحد 15 أيار 2011 عيد السيدة العذراء لبركة السنابل يوماً مشهوداً فقد تقاطر العشراتُ من كنائس الأبرشية المحلية للمشاركة في إحتفالات كنيسة مار بطرس في جلندورا بالذكرى الاولى لتأسيس كنيستهم وبإستلامهم إياها التي تَّم شراؤها في مدينة سان ديماس قبل مرور عامٍ على تأسيسها مما يدل على صدق ثبات هذه الرعية في إيمانهم بعمق محبتهم للكنيسة.

ولقد إحتفل نيافة الحبر الجليل مار اقليميس أوكين بإقامة الذبيحة الالهية يعاونه كلٌ من الابوين راعي الكنيسة القس يوسف كلو والقس لويس يعقوب وحضر القداس لاحقاً الخوري عبدالاحد شارا والقس جان سيف ولقد إرتجل نيافته كلمةً باللغات الثلاثة السريانية والانكليزية والعربية مهنئاً أبناء الكنيسة بإنجازِهم هذا الكبير ومثنياً على همّة القائمين على هذا المشروع.

وتبع هذا عروضٌ روحية بتقديم شهاداتِ تشجيعٍ لبعض العاملين ومن ثم دعا المجلسُ الملي الحضورَ الذين تجاوز عددهم المئات للاشتراك بطعام المحبة والشكر ورتل ألآباءُ الكهنة مع الحضور أنشودة الترحيب بالأحبار بين تصفيق الحضور وزغردة النساء وكان الابتهاج والسرور بادياً على محيا الجميع.

ولقد بارك نيافته الحضور والطعام مهنئاً ثم غادر الجميع الى موقع الكنيسة الجديدة حيث طاف نيافته مع الأباء الكهنة وجمهور المؤمنين في أرجائها مبتهجين بهذا الانجاز الضخم وداعية لابناء الكنيسة بكل النجاحات.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization comprised of 10 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
