Orthodox Western Archdiocese Youth Basketball League
On Thursday March 15th, 2010 the Western Syriac Orthodox
Archdiocesan Churches: St. Ephraim Cathedral, Burbank, St. George Church, San Fernando, and St. Mary Church, Orange, participated in their first annual men’s youth basketball league.
The league consisted of 6 teams ages 17+. The basketball league was a great opportunity to meet members from various churches and build camaraderie amongst the youth. The final two teams (Usual Suspects vs Burbank United) played in the championship game on May 13th 2010. His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan presented the champion Usual Suspects with trophies.
Rev. Fr. Louis Yacoub, Rev. Fr. John Saif, Rev. Fr. Ephram Adde, friends and family members were all in attendance supporting the event.
Due to the success of the basketball league the youth are hoping to start another league.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch,
providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox
community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization
comprised of 10 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was
established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church
encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by
the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively
serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
