His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugen Kaplan paid pastoral visit to Oregon, Washington and Vancouver BC

November,27 2014

On November 01 2014 the Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan has started his pastoral visit to three churches in the North West of USA and Vancouver, Canada.

In Oregon - His Eminence has arrived Portland, Oregon on Saturday November 01 2014. In the same day His eminence met the parish council and some faithful.

On Sunday November 2, The Archbishop celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church in Portland, Oregon, which was the first Sunday of our Liturgical Calendar Year, and assisted by Rev. Fr. George Yousif Albanna, the church priest. During the service His Eminence has ordained six deacons to serve the church altar in Oregon (Three Sub-deacons (Afoodyaqno) and three Readers (Qorooye).

And during the 6 days visit to Oregon, the Archbishop attended the following events:
1) Special blessing and prayers on the newly lighted Cross of the Church with the presence of most of the church Congregation in the evening.
2) Lead the General meeting of the congregation of the Church for the year 2014.
3) The Church family night, this held monthly at the church Hall.
4) Visited more than 15 families of the new comers to Oregon and Washington.

In Seatle –Washington, His Eminence spend three days with St. Matthew the Elder church members. Accommodated by the Reverend Sub-deacon Jihad Tafas. On Friday November 7, the Archbishop celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Mary Coptic church, assisted by Rev. Fr. Abdullah Tafas, the St. Matthew the Elder priest. Following the Divine Liturgy His Eminence met the congregation and spent spiritual time with them.

In Vancouver – Canada, The Archbishop arrived on Saturday November 8 and immediately started visiting the families of our church (Virgin Mary, at BC, Canada).

On Sunday November 9, His Eminence celebrated the Divine Liturgy at 2:30 p.m. assisted by Rev. Fr. George Yousif Albanna, the priest who is taking care of this church, and Rev. Fr. Abdullah Tafas, priest of St. Matthew the Elder in Seattle, WA. During the service; the Archbishop elevated the Sub-deacon (Moussa Al-Mero) to the rank of Full-Deacon (Ewangeloyo), also ordained 9 deaconesses to serve the Virgin Mary church.

Following the Divine Liturgy His Eminence The Archbishop attended a special evening with the congregation of our church at Vancouver Canada at the Hall of the Church. And encouraged them to buy a church.

It was established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
