His Eminence Mor Timotheos Ephrem Aboodi laid to eternal rest

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, their Eminences the Archbishops, members of the Holy Synod of Antioch, mourn the thrice blessed Archbishop Mor Timotheos Ephrem Aboudi, who passed away in Atchaneh – Lebanon, on Thursday April 25, 2019.

The Holy Qurobo will be celebrated at Virgin Mary Cathedral in Atchaneh, Lebanon, on Saturday April 27, 2019, 9:30 a.m. His Holiness will preside over the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. of the same day.

Condolences shall be received immediately after the funeral.

The thrice blessed was born in Mosul - Iraq in 1930. He joined Mor Ephrem Theological Seminary (in Mosul back then) in 1945, graduating with a Diploma in Theology in 1951. He was appointed as Syriac Language Teacher in the schools affiliated with our Church in Qamishly.
Then, he was appointed as secretary of the Archdiocese of Aleppo in 1952.

On February 16, 1953, he tonsured as monk in 1954, by the thrice blessed Mor Dionysius Behnam Jajawi. On December 14, 1954, he ordained him as Deacon, and on March 25, 1956, he ordained him as priest.

Mor Timotheos Ephrem Aboudi served at the patriarchate till the summer of that year. He then moved to Mosul, and later to Aleppo. Afterwards, he ministered to the flock of the parish of the Virgin Mary in Bourj Hammoud – Lebanon. In 1964, he was appointed as Patriarchal Delegate to India.

On January 9, 1972, the Late Patriarch Yaacoub III consecrated him as Archbishop, Apostolic Nuncio to India, giving him the name “Timotheos”.

In 1977, he was elected as Archbishop of Sweden and Great Britain. Ten years later, he resigned. Then, he was appointed Patriarchal Vicar in Australia, and then in Canada.

He resigned in 2008 due to his advancement in age.

Mor Timotheos Ephrem Aboudi has several writings such as “The Weapon of the Faithful” (Syriac/Arabic), and “A Short History of the Church in India” (Malayalam). During his years in India, he published a journal entitled “News from Shima”. He also has several articles and homilies in Syriac.

بمزيد من الأسف والحزن، نعى قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني، بطريرك أنطاكية وسائر المشرق، والرئيس الأعلى للكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية في العالم أجمع، وأصحاب النيافة السادة المطارنة أعضاء المجمع الأنطاكي المقدّس، المثلّثَ الرحمة المطران مار تيموثاوس أفرام عبودي، المنتقل إلى رحمته تعالى صباح يوم الخميس 25 نيسان 2019 في لبنان.

يُحتفل بئالقدّاس الإلهي لراحة نفسه في تمام الساعة التاسعة والنصف من صباح يوم السبت 27 نيسان 2019، في كاتدرائية السيدة العذراء في العطشانة، بكفيا – لبنان. ويُقيم قداسة سيدنا البطريرك صلاة الجنّاز والدفن في تمام الساعة الثالثة من بعد ظهر اليوم نفسه.

تُقبل التعازي مباشرةً بعد الدفن.
المثلّث الرحمة من مواليد الموصل في العراق عام 1930. التحق بمعهد مار أفرام اللاهوتي (بالموصل آنذاك) عام 1945، ونال منه على دبلوم في اللاهوت عام 1951، وتعيّن معلّمًا للغة السرياني في المدراس التابعة لكنيستنا في مدينة القامشلي السورية، ثمّ عُيِّن سكرتيرًا لمطرانية حلب سنة 1952.

بتاريخ 16/2/1953، ألبسه المثلّث الرحمة مار ديونيسيوس جرجس بهنام الإسكيم الرهباني، وفي 14/12/1954، رسمه شمّاسًا إنجيليًّا، ثمّ كاهنًا بتاريخ 25/3/1956.

انتقل للخدمة في الدار البطريركية حتّى صيف العام التالي، حيث نُقلت خدماته إلى أبرشية الموصل، وبعدها إلى أبرشية حلب من جديد، ثمّ إلى رعية السيدة العذراء في برج حمود بلبنان، حيث خدم أكثر من سنةٍ، إلى أن عُيِّن معتمدًا بطريركيًّا في الهند عام 1964.

بتاريخ 9/1/1972، رسمه المثلّث الرحمات البطريرك مار إغناطيوس يعقوب الثالث مطرانًا قاصدًا رسوليًّا للهند وسمّاه تيموثاوس.

عام 1977، انتُخب مطرانًا لأبرشية السويد وبريطانية، حيث خدم عشر سنوات، ثمّ تعيّن نائبًا بطريركيًّا لأوستراليا، وثمّ لكندا.

وفي الدورة العادية للمجمع المقدّس المنعقد من10 إلى 12 أيلول 2008، قدّم المثلّث الرحمة استقالته بسبب تقدّمه في السنّ ولأسبابٍ صحّية.

للمثلّث الرحمة مؤلّفاتٍ عدّة طُبع منها: سلاح المؤمن باللغتين السريانية والعربية، نبذة عن تاريخ الكنيسة في الهند بلغة المليالم. وخلال وجوده في الهند أصدر مجلّةً باسم أخبار من شيما. وله العديد من المقالات والقصائد السريانية المنشورة في صحفٍ ومجلاّتٍ مختلفة.
